Turkish Airlines and South African Airways have forged a strategic alliance, signing a codeshare agreement that will revolutionize travel between Africa and Türkiye. This partnership, set to commence on March 1, 2026, marks a significant milestone in the aviation industry.
The agreement was officially sealed in Geneva by the esteemed leaders of both airlines: Turkish Airlines Chairman Prof. Ahmet Bolat and South African Airways CEO Prof. John Lamola. Accompanying them were senior executives from both organizations, underscoring the importance of this collaboration.
Under the terms of the agreement, Turkish Airlines will display its TK flight code on South African Airways' flights connecting key African destinations, including Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Windhoek, Harare, Victoria Falls, and Mauritius. This strategic move will enhance connectivity and provide seamless travel experiences for passengers.
In return, South African Airways will feature its SA flight code on selected Turkish Airlines-operated routes between Istanbul and Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Frankfurt, Paris, and London. This reciprocal arrangement ensures a comprehensive network of flights, benefiting travelers on both continents.
Prof. Ahmet Bolat emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, 'Our codeshare agreement with South African Airways is a pivotal step in strengthening our presence in the African market and fostering deeper ties between Türkiye and South Africa. As the largest non-African airline operating in Africa, we are committed to sustainable partnerships that enhance connectivity and create long-term value for our passengers.'
Prof. John Lamola echoed these sentiments, expressing South African Airways' enthusiasm for the collaboration. 'South African Airways embraces this codeshare partnership as a strategic move to expand safe, reliable, and competitive air services for our customers. Turkish Airlines' global reputation as a respected carrier aligns perfectly with our shared vision of strengthening connectivity between Africa and Türkiye. This partnership is a catalyst for tourism, trade, and sustainable economic development.'
This groundbreaking agreement promises to revolutionize travel, making it more accessible and efficient for passengers connecting Africa and Türkiye. The collaboration between these two leading airlines is a testament to the power of international cooperation in the aviation industry.
