And this is the part most people miss: later that same Thursday evening, four more lives were taken in an Israeli airstrike targeting a house in eastern Gaza City. Rescue efforts are underway to find those still missing, Bassal confirmed. The death toll now stands at 13, a stark reminder of what Bassal called a “clear violation of the ceasefire agreement.”
Earlier in the day, the Israeli military reported a projectile launched from Gaza City toward Israel, though it landed within Gaza. In response, they claimed to have “precisely struck the launch point.” But here’s where it gets controversial: while Israel points to alleged provocations, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem argues that these strikes prove Israel’s disregard for the ceasefire.
Since October 10, a US-brokered truce has largely paused the conflict between Israeli forces and Hamas, yet both sides accuse each other of frequent violations. Gaza’s health ministry reports that at least 425 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the ceasefire began, with November 22 marking one of the deadliest days—21 lives lost in a single day. Meanwhile, the Israeli military states that three of its soldiers have been killed during this period.
