A Birthday Wish Gone Awry
It was a special day for Lopez; it was his son's birthday. He planned to quickly wish his then-stablemate Stevenson good luck, watch the fight, and then rush back home to celebrate with his family.

"Then I saw Shakur, and the first thing he said was, 'You look small.' I was taken aback and thought, 'Focus on De Los Santos.' He was focusing on the wrong things. But I kept that to myself."
Lopez added, "I stayed a bit longer, and after Shakur entered the ring, I saw his managers, J-Prince and Antonio. I nodded and left before the fight even started."
Stevenson dominated and won the WBC title, but the fight left fans divided. Lopez, however, was relieved to have left early, cherishing the extra time with his son on his birthday.
The Tactical Challenge
Malick Scott, former trainer of Deontay Wilder, shed light on a critical aspect of this weekend's main event. Appearing on Inside The Ring, Scott emphasized the significance of Stevenson's jab, which he considers one of the best in the business, especially for a southpaw.
Scott explained, "Shakur's jab is exceptional. As fighters rock back and forth before attacking, Shakur times it perfectly and catches them with the jab. He has an incredible sense of distance and timing."
But Lopez has his own challenges, as Scott pointed out. Analyzing Lopez's 2024 victory over Jamaine Ortiz, Scott noticed that Lopez often left himself vulnerable to Ortiz's jab due to his lead hand being down, a tactical error.
"It's a tragedy when Teo fights a southpaw with his lead hand down," Scott said. "He's closer to the opponent's lead hand, and Shakur has a powerful jab. I strongly suggest Teo keeps his lead hand up when engaging with Shakur."
