The search for a suspect continues after a tragic shooting incident at Lake Cargelligo, leaving three individuals dead and a community in shock. The incident unfolded in a remote New South Wales town, where a man and a woman were discovered dead in a vehicle on Bokhara Street, near the picturesque Lake Cargelligo, approximately 130 kilometers north of Griffith. This grim discovery came after police responded to reports of gunshots around 4:20 p.m. on Thursday.
In a subsequent development, police were called to a second location on Walker Street, where they encountered two more individuals with gunshot wounds. Despite their efforts, a 50-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries, while a 19-year-old man was rushed to the hospital in a serious but stable condition. The authorities have identified the suspect as 37-year-old Julian Ingram, also known as Pierpoint, who is believed to be of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander descent, standing between 165cm and 170cm tall, with a medium build, short dark hair, and brown eyes.
The suspect was last seen driving a distinctive Ford Ranger utility with New South Wales registration DM-07-GZ. This vehicle is described as having council signage, a metal tray-back, high-visibility markings on the sides, and an emergency-light bar on the roof. The Western Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Andrew Holland, assured the public that the police are actively searching for the offender, who is believed to have fled in a vehicle. The search is extensive, with police helicopters patrolling the area and tactical officers deployed from Sydney for assistance.
The incident has left the small town of Lake Cargelligo, with a population of under 1,500, reeling. The town is situated on the banks of the magnificent Lake Cargelligo, and the tragedy has been described as a "crying shame" by Lachlan Shire Mayor John Metcalf.
