K-Pop's Demon Hunters: A Golden Globe Triumph

The K-Pop sensation, "KPop Demon Hunters," has achieved a remarkable feat, securing three Golden Globe nominations, including Best Animated Film, Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, and Original Song for the track "Golden."

"Golden," performed by Huntr/x (EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami), and written by EJAE, Mark Sonnenblick, DO 24, and Teddy, marks a historic moment as EJAE becomes the first Korean American to be nominated for a Globe. A win in this category would solidify her place in Golden Globe history.

The Original Song category also features other contenders: "Dream as One" from "Avatar: Fire and Ash," "I Lied to You" from "Sinners," "No Place Like Home" from "Wicked: For Good," "The Girl in the Bubble" from the same film, and "Train Dreams" from its eponymous film.

In the Animated Feature category, "KPop Demon Hunters" is the predicted frontrunner, nominated alongside "Arco," "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle," "Elio," "Little Amélie or the Character of Rain," and "Zootopia 2."

Since its debut on Netflix in June, the film has dominated the platform, becoming its most popular movie ever by securing the No. 1 spot. Three of its original songs, "Golden," "Your Idol," and "Soda Pop," have consistently charted on Billboard's Hot 100. Last month, it earned three Grammy nominations, including the prestigious Song of the Year for "Golden."

The success of "KPop Demon Hunters" has been so significant that Netflix, known for its theatrical-averse approach, decided to release a sing-along version of the film in theaters for fan events in August and October. During its initial release, the film topped the box office with approximately $18 million over two days. Around Halloween, it collected an impressive $5 million to $6 million, considering its widespread availability on streaming services for months.

This achievement is all the more remarkable given that Variety's parent company, PMC, owns Dick Clark Productions in a joint venture with Eldridge.
