Cena's recent interview with Joe Rogan delved into a 2021 controversy that could have changed everything. It all began with a comment that inadvertently touched upon the sensitive issue of Taiwan's status.
Cena, with his decade of Mandarin studies and experience filming in China, explained his intention to connect with a broader audience. He shared that he had committed to doing a significant portion of his media appearances in Mandarin. But here's where it gets controversial... During the filming of a promotional video, a line in Mandarin referred to Taiwan as a country. Cena, reading from the prompt, inadvertently triggered a significant backlash.
The reaction from China was swift, leading Cena to issue an apology. However, as he now acknowledges, "In apologising to China, I pissed off my home country." He was caught in the crossfire, facing criticism from all sides.
And this is the part most people miss... Cena believed his role in Peacemaker Season 1 was at risk. He immediately approached James Gunn, offering his resignation if necessary.
