Delta Airlines to Cease Flights from Binghamton, NY, in February
Binghamton, New York (WBNG) -- A significant change is coming to air travel in the Binghamton area. According to Broome County Executive Jason Garnar, Delta Airlines will no longer operate flights in or out of the Greater Binghamton Airport, a development that has left many travelers concerned.
Delta, the sole commercial airline serving the airport, has informed the airport's management that it will discontinue its services on February 14th. This decision comes as a surprise, especially since Delta has been the primary carrier for the region for an extended period.
To address the impact on travelers, Delta representatives will personally reach out to customers who have booked flights after February 14th. They will work to re-accommodate these passengers, ensuring they can still travel as planned.
The Greater Binghamton Airport's Commissioner of Aviation, Mark Heefner, provided insight into the decision, explaining that air service choices are influenced by various factors beyond the airport's control. He stated, 'We were informed by Delta Airlines this afternoon that they will terminate their service to our airport on February 14th. Delta has assured us that they will personally assist all customers who have booked flights after that date.
'Air service decisions are complex and influenced by numerous factors, which are often beyond the control of local airports and communities. We are actively engaged in discussions with Delta and collaborating with state, local, and federal partners to restore passenger services as soon as feasible. Additionally, we are exploring opportunities to expand air service by engaging with multiple airlines.'
Despite the setback, the airport remains committed to providing reliable and accessible air travel options for the residents and businesses of the Greater Binghamton region. The focus is now on finding alternative solutions to ensure the area's connectivity remains intact.
