Audi's 2026 F1 Car Unveiled! First Look at the R26 in Barcelona (2026)

Breaking News: Audi Makes History, Kicking Off the 2026 F1 Season!

Audi has just become the first team to hit the track with their 2026 Formula 1 car! This marks a significant milestone as the sport gears up for a season of major changes and new technical regulations. On Friday, the team held a filming day in Barcelona, giving us a sneak peek at what's to come.

Audi is taking over from the former Sauber team, but now they're stepping up as a works outfit. This means they're not just racing; they're also producing their own engine, designed specifically for the new technical rules of the 2026 season.

Given the massive overhaul in both car chassis and engine design, three pre-season testing events have been scheduled. The first test will take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya from January 26th to 30th.

Before the official tests, teams often use their allocated filming days to give their cars a shakedown. Audi wasted no time, becoming the first to do so with their new R26 on Friday.

The team shared images from the pit lane and garage on Instagram, though, understandably, the photos didn't reveal much about the car's design at this early stage. One shot showed the car entering the pit lane, another from behind while it was in the pit box, and a third focused on the right-hand side of the rear wing.

But here's where it gets interesting... Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto were behind the wheel, while team principal Jonathan Wheatley and Audi F1 head Mattia Binotto were also present. This early testing is crucial for ironing out any initial issues and gathering data.

In an Instagram post, the team declared, "We're officially rolling." They added, "A milestone moment in Barcelona as the R26 hit a racetrack for the very first time. First day. First laps. First chance for our drivers to experience the car. The road ahead starts right here."

Audi is set to officially unveil their new team and car livery at an event in Berlin on January 20th. This is just five days before the R26 returns to the Barcelona track for the first pre-season test, which will be held behind closed doors.

All 11 F1 teams for the 2026 season have now confirmed their launch plans. Red Bull's teams will start the launch season at Ford's headquarters in Detroit on January 15th.

And this is the part most people miss... The 2026 season promises to be a game-changer with these new regulations.

Watch every race of the 2026 F1 season live on Sky Sports, starting with the Australian Grand Prix from March 6-8.
