A38 Reopens After Breakdown Causes Rush-Hour Chaos

A busy Devon A-road was brought to a standstill this morning (February 10) due to a breakdown during rush hour.

The incident occurred on the A38 at Chudleigh, partially blocking the northbound carriageway.

Traffic was slow from Marsh Lane near Harcombe Cross, all the way to Haldon Hill at the Racecourse Junction, Whiteway House.

The delay was first reported to Inrix, a traffic monitoring site, at 8:31 am as a crash. Inrix stated, 'A38 Northbound partially blocked, slow traffic due to accident from Marsh Lane (Harcombe Cross, Chudleigh) to Haldon Hill (Racecourse Junction, Whiteway House).'

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the incident was a breakdown. A spokesperson said, 'A broken down car was reported to us at 7:45 am today, 10 February. The vehicle was blocking one lane on the A38 northbound at Chudleigh Knighton. Traffic management was put in place by National Highways.'

The road eventually reopened, and the breakdown vehicle was removed.

This incident highlights the impact of a single breakdown on rush-hour traffic, causing significant delays and congestion. It serves as a reminder of the importance of vehicle maintenance and the potential consequences of breakdowns on our roads.
