2025 Winter Junior Championships West: Kayla Han, Luke Vatev & Top Swimmers to Watch! (2026)

Get ready for an adrenaline-fueled week as the nation's top junior swimmers dive into the pool for the prestigious Winter Juniors competition! This event promises to be a thrilling showcase of talent and determination.

The West Site: A Battle of Champions

On the women's side, we have an exciting lineup of top recruits. Indiana-bound Kayla Han, a two-time USA National Team member and the #2 recruit in her class, is set to defend her titles in the 1650 free and 400 IM for the third consecutive year. She's a force to be reckoned with, entering as the top seed in each of her four events: the 500 free, 1000 free, 1650 free, and 400 IM.

But here's where it gets controversial... Sydney Schoeck, the #7 recruit, is hot on Han's heels, especially in the 200 back, where she's the top seed. Schoeck is also the #2 seed in three other events, closely following Han's pace.

And this is the part most people miss: Mikayla Tan, a NAG record holder in multiple age groups, is only 15 years old! She'll be competing in a range of events, including the 200 IM, 100 fly, 200 fly, 100 breast, and 200 breast, where she's a top seed.

Other notable women's seeds include Kelsey Zhang (200 IM, 200 fly), Adalynn Biegler (50 free), and Clare Watson (100 fly).

Now, let's shift our focus to the men's events. Luke Vatev, another #2 recruit, will be swimming in four events: the 100 back, 200 back, 100 free, and 200 fly. He's the top seed in both backstroke events, so keep an eye on him!

Rowan Cox, representing Longhorn Aquatics, is aiming to defend his title in the 100 fly, where he's the #1 seed. He's also entered in a range of other events, showcasing his versatility.

Shareef Elaydi, a CIF State Champion, holds top seeds in the 200 IM and 200 fly. He'll also be competing in the 100 breast and 100 fly, adding to the excitement.

Other top men's seeds include Maxwell Stanislaus (200 free, 500 free), Tyler Porter (50 free), and Yury Kuzmenko (100 free).

Lastly, Gabriel Manteufel, the #2 recruit in his class, is a bit of an enigma. He's only swimming one event, the mile, but he's a proven champion, having won this event and the 500 free last year.

So, who will emerge as the champions of Winter Juniors? Will the favorites live up to their billing, or will there be some unexpected upsets? Join us to find out!
